Microsoft has committed to investing in the 175 megawatt Pilot Hill Wind Project in Illinois. The wind farm project will be funded through Microsoft’s carbon free initiative and is the largest wind investment ever made by the company.

The Indian government has devised a plan to promote domestic solar photovoltaic module manufacturers even as it recently dropped the proposal to levy anti-dumping duties on imported modules.

The government plans to light up national border with solar power plants, some of which could also fence the areas. The proposal, a brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is to set up 1,000-mw plants on defence land and supply the electricity at a fixed price ofRs 5.5 per unit for 25 years.

The West Bengal government will start installing solar panels in 100 schools and hospitals across the state this November, state Environment Minister Sudarshan Ghosh Dastidar. The initiative will cover 60 state-run schools and 40 rural hospitals in various districts, the minister said.
